ARCHAEOLOGICAL FIELD TECHNICIAN -TEMPORARY, INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA
The Environmental Division of SJCA, Inc. (SJCA), an engineering and environmental firm in Indianapolis, Indiana, is seeking to develop a pool of Archaeological Field Technicians for upcoming archaeological survey projects in the Midwest.
Compensation
The hourly wage for this position will be between $25 and $28.50, commensurate with experience, plus $45 per diem. SJCA will pay for drive time and mileage, with amounts factored on a project-to-project basis. Accommodation will be provided for overnight projects. Transportation will be provided to and from the project area on overnight projects. Field techs will be responsible for arranging their travel to and from the project areas at the beginning and end of each project.
Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to
Conduct archaeological fieldwork for multiple projects and at all levels of investigation (Phases I-III).
Conduct shovel testing, pedestrian surveys, and site documentation.
Assist in field assessments related to archaeological projects, including GPS data collection and field mapping, artifact collection and analysis, and photo and site recordation. Technicians will work closely under the supervision of SJCA, Inc. staff.
Minimum Qualifications
6 months of previous archaeological experience on Phase I level surveys
BA/BS degree in anthropology/archaeology degree in archaeology and completed an archaeological field school
Demonstrated experience conducting archaeological fieldwork
Perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., rugged and unfamiliar terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures)
Working knowledge of GPS systems or ArcGIS collector
The ability to travel to different project locations.
The ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, as well as carry supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
Strong writing and communications skills
Ability to work with a team, including internal staff
Possess a valid driver’s license and pass a background check
Preferred Qualifications
Fieldwork experience in Midwest
2-5 years of experience in cultural resources management
Phase II level experience in the Midwest
