Registered Nurse (Device Clinic)
Job Description
Reports to: Device Clinic Supervisor/Lead
Function:
Provide high quality care to patients that have implanted cardiac devices. Implanted cardiac device refers to pacemakers, defibrillators and loop recorders. Each has various device models and manufacturers. Implement excellent customer service standards for a positive patient and family experience.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Responsible for assessing patient symptoms related to cardiac arrhythmias, device function/malfunction, and implanted cardiac device programming.
· Provide nursing analysis and interpretation of data obtained from implanted cardiac devices. This is obtained remotely or in the clinic setting.
· Conduct a variety of testing on implanted cardiac devices to evaluate the function/malfunction of the device while maintaining patient safety and the well-being of the patient.
· The ability to do this work is dependent on knowing and understanding abnormal heart rhythms, abnormal device function, and pacing behavior.
· Create reports detailing nursing interpretation of data collected from the device and provide nursing recommendations for further care, evaluation, and device programming to the appropriate Electrophysiologist, Cardiologist, and/or Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs).
· Collect data and perform data entry into Paceart, remote monitoring systems, and the electronic medical record. Determines/schedules next evaluation based on clinical assessment. Enter billing codes for services provided while following billing guidelines.
· Provide direct patient care and delegate aspects of care to other team members, as necessary, that is consistent with their level of preparation (licensure, credentials, etc) and job description utilizing time and resources effectively.
· Teach and counsel patients and their families about the device capabilities and its impact on patient well-being post implant and ongoing.
· Provide compassionate and professional patient and family communication in person, via telephone, and via mail.
· Perform high quality care while maintaining their assigned FTE and works to be fiscally responsible to the organization.
Supervision Received:
General supervision is provided by the EP and/or Cardiologists during in clinic device evaluations.
Contacts:
Works closely with EP physicians, cardiologists, advanced practice clinicians, nursing, and medical assistant team members. Also works with scheduling, medical records, billing, call center, and diagnostics. Frequent contact with patient and families. Collaboration with device vendors. All interactions require professionalism, tact, and diplomacy.
Physical Requirements:
· Frequent walking, sitting, bending and standing for extended periods of time.
· Occasionally lifting and carrying items up to 30 lbs.
· Able to push or pull over 100lbs with assistance.
Requirements:
· RN licensed in the State of Wisconsin
· Effective verbal and written communication skills
· Detail oriented
· Able to work effectively within a team and individual setting
Preferred:
· Three years of recent cardiology work
· Current ACLS and BLS (can be obtained after hire)
· Proficiency in arrhythmia analysis and interpretation
· Knowledge of the management and analysis implanted cardiac devices
· International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) certification
