POSITION: MAINTENANCE WORKER II
REPORTS TO: Manager, Facilities
WORK YEAR: 12 months
HOURS & SCHEDULE: 40 hrs/wk; Monday-Friday; weekends with advance notice; 10:00 am to 6:30 pm AND/OR 6:00 am to 2:30 pm (hourly schedule may vary)

DEFINITION & SCOPE OF PRACTICE:
Coordinates and reviews the activities of maintenance workers during the maintenance of facilities, vehicles and grounds. Performs custodial activities, maintain buildings and adjacent areas in clean, orderly and secure condition. Secures facilities in accordance with policies and procedures. Performs the more complex maintenance tasks or arranges for vendors to complete contracted maintenance/repair tasks.
TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Adjust and arrange furniture and equipment; clean tables; set up facilities for special events and meetings; make minor repairs to desks and chairs.
2. Arranges for fire extinguisher recharging, backflow prevention device certification, and fire sprinkler certification
3. Assist outside vendors and maintenance contractors visiting the site(s).
4. Assure security of site during assigned hours; lock and unlock gates, doors and windows; monitor facilities for fire hazards and report to appropriate personnel as required.
5. Clean, scrub and disinfect student and staff restrooms; wash windows and walls; polish metal work, clean sinks, mirrors and other bathroom fixtures; restock paper supplies and soap as necessary; clean drinking fountains.
6. Conduct weekly, monthly, and annual safety inspections on all applicable equipment.
7. Confer with the Manager of Facilities regarding custodial and maintenance projects and activities at assigned site(s); assist faculty and staff with custodial and minor maintenance issues; clean classrooms, offices, food serving areas and other facilities.
8. Coordinates the movement of equipment, classroom materials and office furniture to accommodate changes in need or classroom location
9. Dust and polish furniture, light fixtures and woodwork; trays and operate an eraser cleaner to clean erasers; empty pencil sharpeners.
10. Ensures ROP vehicles are maintained by assessing problems, coordinating repairs and having smog certification completed
11. Inspect completed work for accuracy and compliance with instructions and established standards; inspect assigned areas and report safety, sanitation and fire hazards to appropriate authorities; report need for maintenance repairs to appropriate personnel.
12. Maintains central inventory of paper and cleaning supplies for all facilities
13. Maintains inventory of paper and cleaning supplies to assure products are available at all times
14. Make minor repairs and adjustments to plumbing and electrical equipment and apparatus at the facilities; clean plugged drains and drain pipes; replace fuses, fixtures and tape exposed wiring; change air conditioning filters and maintain related logs.
15. Operate and maintain a variety of custodial equipment including a floor stripper, buffer, carpet shampooer, vacuum cleaner, and small power and hand tools; replace belts and bags on vacuum cleaners as necessary; operate audio-visual equipment as necessary.

17. Paint and repair drywall for interior and exterior walls as needed and remove graffiti as necessary
18. Perform messenger and/or delivery services as requested by Ed center staff
19. Perform related duties as assigned.
20. Perform responsible daytime custodial activities at an assigned site(s); sweep, scrub, mop, wax and polish floors and vacuum rugs and carpets in classrooms, offices and other work areas; spot clean and shampoo carpets.
21. Performs minor repair of all plumbing fixtures, faucets, and electrical fixtures, including changing light bulbs and ballasts
22. Pick up paper and other debris from grounds and buildings; empty and clean the waste receptacles; refill dispensers.
23. Plan, assign, monitor and participate in cleaning and custodial functions; inspect assigned site and report condition of facilities; train, assign and review work of other staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & TRAINING:
- Required: A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and five years related custodial and maintenance experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Training courses in general plumbing and electricity are desirable.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:
- The incumbent is required to maintain a valid Class C or Class 3 California driver’s license and acceptable driving records to perform deliveries or travel to various facilities.
- Valid forklift operator certification.

This position classification performs duties in an office setting and may occasionally work outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, bodily fluids and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. When working outdoors the employee is exposed to normal seasonal weather variation.
The position classification may demand meeting deadlines and time constraints and may involve performing job duties in more than one location.
