SUMMARY
This position is responsible for managing all programmatic and quality of life initiatives for a 30 bed Dementia Specialty unit and ensuring compliance of state regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Embraces Edenwald’s Mission Statement and Values, as well as the philosophy of the community and utilizes these as the foundation for the operation of the department. Understands the purpose of these principles and philosophy and uses them as a guide in the daily performance of this position.
2. Utilizes Edenwald’s policies and procedures, and applies the policies in the operation of the department.
3. Operates the department in accordance with the approved budget, while providing the client with the maximum value for the dollars spent. Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises assisted living staff.
4. Develops and implements a staffing plan, which includes an orientation and on-going training program for all staff, with specific training in management, assessment, and programing for the resident with cognitive impairment.
5. Develops and implements all policies, programs and services according to applicable state regulations and laws.
6. Implements and maintains all regulatory requirements and responsibilities as the Delegating Nurse for your areas of responsibility
7. Provides or ensures, through the coordination of community services, that each resident has access to appropriate medical and psychosocial services, according to all state requirements.
8. Ensures appropriate coordination of all components of a resident’s service plan, including necessary transportation and delivery of needed supplies.
9. Ensures appropriate oversight and monitoring of the implementation of each resident’s service plan.
10. Ensures all record-keeping conforms to state requirements and laws.
11. Maintains all requirements for the unit to maintain the status of a designated Alzheimer Specialty Unit by the state of Maryland.
12. Obtains and maintains an accreditation status as a nationally recognized unit that specializes in the care of dementia patients.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will be responsible for the supervision and training of staff dedicated to the Assisted Living Dementia Specialty Unit. This will include direct supervision of nursing staff and oversight and collaboration of auxiliary staff from support departments such as activities, housekeeping, culinary, and maintenance.

Have sufficient skills, training, and experience to serve the residents in a manner that is consistent with the philosophy of assisted living and caring for dementia patients.
Demonstrate adequate knowledge and understanding of areas as required by the Code of Maryland Regulations 10.07.14.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Registered Nurse licensure required. Certifications/Training in Dementia and Memory Care preferred. Minimum of three years supervisory experience in an Assisted Living facility with a dementia unit.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, speak, and write fluent English.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, percentages, and decimals.
REASONING SKILLS
Ability to solve complex problems, plan to avoid problems, ability to make decisions independently within a limited time frame.
