Role Details:
Job Summary:
The Senior Systems Administrator works with the Systems Administration Manager to provide support for all facets of systems and data center administration and support including installation, configuration, design, performance monitoring and tuning, troubleshooting and maintenance of production, development, and test environments.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Set up and install new servers in a virtual environment.

Monitor system performance and identify potential issues before they occur.

Perform regular backups and ensure efficient disaster recovery procedures.

Implement and enforce security protocols to safeguard systems and data.

Participate in capacity planning for the infrastructure.

Document existing and new infrastructure deployments, procedures, configurations, and architecture diagrams.

Collaborate with DBA and Development teams to resolve issues, assess future growth and capacity requirements.

Identify and resolve virtualization related system problems and performance issues.

Perform troubleshooting activities on production servers’ off-hours (nights or weekends) if required to minimize impact to operations.

Perform hardware upgrades and swaps.

Apply and maintain OS level security and feature patching.

Proactively research new and/or updated technologies as they become available that pertain to our environment.

Interface with customer, users, and external venders as necessary

Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively communicate and present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Strong understanding of server administration principles and practices for both on-prem and in cloud.

Ability to utilize advanced knowledge of server technologies and hardware (i.e. Windows Server, Hypervisors, Active Directory, TCP/IP, DHCP, and DNS). Also includes virtualization server products, storage, backup solutions, area networks, and iSCSI solutions.

Ability to write scripts, batch files, and automated processes using solutions like PowerShell.

Solid understanding of Linux products & Windows OS’s

Thorough understanding of network configuration for virtual environments

Experience optimizing backup solutions for VM environment.

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Must have a current driver’s license and auto liability insurance.

Occasional travel with overnight stays.
