Position Title: Electives Teacher
The Electives Teacher at RLA will develop and implement a broad and engaging curriculum across various elective subjects, including but not limited to languages, technology, and other specialized fields. This role demands creativity, innovation, and a commitment to RLA's educational philosophy, incorporating PBL and SEL to cater to diverse student interests and prepare them for future success.
Essential Functions:
- Curriculum Development: Craft and deliver a dynamic curriculum that spans multiple elective subjects, tailoring content to foster student engagement, inquiry, and discovery. Implement PBL principles to ensure real-world relevance and student-centered learning experiences.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work alongside fellow educators to integrate elective subjects with core academic content, promoting a holistic educational approach that reflects the interconnectedness of knowledge and skills.
- Assessment and Feedback: Utilize various assessment strategies to monitor student progress, providing meaningful feedback that encourages growth and reflection. Set clear objectives for all learning activities to ensure transparency and focus.
- Inclusive Instruction: Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, creating an inclusive environment that supports learners from various backgrounds, including special education and English Language Learners.
- Community and Culture Building: Lead initiatives and projects that enhance school culture and community engagement. Organize events or showcases to highlight student work and achievements in elective subjects.
- Professional Development and Growth: Engage in continuous professional development to stay abreast of educational trends and best practices in elective subjects. Foster partnerships with external organizations to enhance the elective curriculum and provide students with additional learning opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Background and Experience: Substantial experience and expertise in one or more elective subjects (language, technology, etc.). Prior teaching experience in these fields is highly preferred.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, with a preference for degrees in Education, Language, Computer Science, or related fields.
- Certification:
- Primary Requirement: Possession of relevant teaching certification or credentials in the designated subject area(s) is highly desirable. While certification is a significant asset for core subjects, it may not be strictly required for all elective areas, depending on the subject's specific demands and the candidate's expertise.
- Flexibility and Growth: For candidates without certification in the subject area, a strong willingness to pursue relevant certification is essential. RLA supports professional development and encourages candidates to take proactive steps toward obtaining certification to enhance educational quality and personal growth.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, proficiency in instructional technology, and the ability to design and implement innovative curriculum aligned with PBL and SEL principles.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to engage actively with students in a variety of learning settings, including classroom, lab, or outdoor activities. May involve moving equipment or materials relevant to the elective subject.
