SCHOOL COUNSELOR
PURPOSE STATEMENT:
The School Counselor is responsible for the general welfare of all students at Kehoe-France Northshore. He/she helps all students in the areas of academic achievement and social/emotional development, ensuring today's students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow. Reporting directly to the Head of School, the school counselor maintains and enhances school policies on safeguarding, crisis, and student protection. The School Counselor mediates relationships between all stakeholders of Kehoe-France Northshore. This is a 12-month position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide individual and group counseling to help students cope effectively with personal, social, academic, and family concerns.
- Teaches guidance classes and provides guidance counseling to students through planned activities in small group or classroom settings to convey educational, social, and important school information, and offers workshops/seminars for parents.
- Provides individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their families regarding academic matters.
- Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students.
- Consults, facilitates, and maintains communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and pertinent agents on specific student and parent academic and educational matters including academic modifications and/or accommodations.
- Provides feedback and recommends appropriate action and solutions to individual student’s academic and educational needs and abilities.
- Assists with school-wide testing, administers tests to students with accommodations.
- Updates and maintains confidential student records.
- Safeguarding and Child Protection Lead officer; safety point person for any student's needs that have to do with personal, social, or family concerns. Works closely with the Administrative Team.
- Remain universally accessible and make an effort to know every student in the school.
- Evaluate all student records prior to the start of each school year and meet with the admin team, teachers, and parents to devise a plan for students with concerns/needs.
- Monitor student progress throughout the school year.
- Coordinate special services for students with special needs.
- Observe and assist teachers with behavioral and academic concerns of students.
- Educate the school community on different issues that arise, including but not limited to internet safety, developmental stages, bullying, etc.
- Crisis interventions/issues that may arise.
- Serve the school community as a member of the Administrative Council to help mediate meetings as well as advocate for student needs in all aspects of the school.
- Help create school policies regarding safeguarding.
- Supports and attends appropriate student activities and events.
- Other duties assigned by the Head of School and/or Administrative Team
- Manage and maintain all reporting as required by KFNS and ISP (Ex. My Concern, 360, and Smoothwall)
- Lead appropriate International Learning Opportunities for students.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. The job generally requires sitting, walking, and standing.
This position is conditional to the provision of federal criminal background checks covering the countries that you have lived and worked in for the last 10 years and any convictions highlighted will be reviewed against standard Safeguarding principles of working with children. All checks requested to be received prior to commencement of employment.
