Winston Preparatory School is searching for candidates for a full-time Dean of Students and Academics at the Marin County campus in San Rafael, California. This position is for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Winston Preparatory School is a co-ed private day school for 3-12th-grade students with learning differences such as dyslexia, nonverbal learning disabilities, expressive or receptive language disorders, and executive functioning difficulties. Essential Responsibilities
Academic Leadership supports the Head of School to coordinate the educational, social-emotional, and logistical functioning of Winston Preparatory School at the campus level. The role of the Dean is responsible for supervising, supporting, and consulting the faculty in their aim to provide excellent remediation and social-emotional support to all students. This position requires the ability to problem-solve, provide and accept feedback, think flexibly and strategically, work both independently and collaboratively, and make decisions aligned with the specific campus and Winston Prep mission and vision.

- Report to and collaborate with the Head of School
- Oversee several groups of neurodivergent learners presenting with similar learning profiles
- Support the teaching team as to understanding of students’ learning profile, determination of appropriate goal setting and review implementation of proper resources in which to target skill development based upon presenting profiles
- Provide instruction of special educational strategies and techniques to improve the development of receptive/expressive language, cognition, memory, executive function, written language and organization, as well as the targeting of social- emotional skills as described in our’ Qualities of a Sustainable and Independent Learner (QSIL).
- Instruct several class periods daily in content areas or within our daily 1:1 Focus Program sessions
- Supervise, support, and consult the teaching teams in their aim to provide academic skill based remediation and present positive feedback and social-emotional support to all students
- Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and practice that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate
- Support teaching teams to enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students
- Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other outside professionals to develop individualized goals and objectives designed to promote students’ educational and social/emotional development
- Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities
- Perform related work as required, including internal team communications, 3 yearly student report writing cycles and attendance at various school events, activities and conferences

Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in a related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience
- Special Education background
