Direct Support Professionals are responsible for assisting the individuals we serve in their own homes by providing individualized support according to their care plan, following the structure guidelines of the Person-Centered Service Plan and Individual Instructional Support Plan. A DSP may assist a client with general decision-making, communication, household tasks, personal hygiene, daily routines, shopping, banking, meal preparation, medical/professional visits, leisure activities, and impromptu duties as they arise. A DSP is assigned to a management team which is supervised by Support and Site Managers. A DSP can be assigned to more than one team in more than one Bellingham and Ferndale area location.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Express concerns for client health and general welfare to the management team
- Complete and monitor all client program records, data, and personal documents that are assigned to them consistent with HCS policy and/or management directives
- Set an example to others by following all approved program standards, policies, and routines
- Establish proper communication with assigned person(s), and facilitate the support of their needs according to HCS guidelines, instructions, and dedicated routines
- Safeguard client confidentiality and ensure program integrity
- Assist coworkers in performing their duties when needed and demonstrate good work habits by completing tasks on schedule, responding to emergencies, providing relevant HCS instruction, and adapting to impromptu support needs as assigned
- Promote program cohesion, work cooperatively with management authority, and assist the team in evaluating all program services
- Handle emergencies including the ability to perform CPR, first aid, and abdominal thrust maneuver
- Be able to attend program meetings and mandatory training sessions
- Be a reliable mandatory reporter
- Complete other duties as assigned
- Arrive to work on time, even during inclement weather situations, and be prepared to be scheduled to work on holidays, weekends, and non-daytime hours if needed
General
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Possess a valid Washington State Driver's License
- Minimum 5 years of driving experience (accommodations may be considered on a case-by-case basis)
- Ability to pass a background check
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Compassionate about the care and well-being of others
Language Skills
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients and other employees of the organization
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide two-digit numbers; ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance
Computer Skills
- Basic computer knowledge to be able to operate required online client documentation programs and employee training programs, such as possessing basic proficiency in word-processing programs and general computer navigation skills
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few variables in standardized situations

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Employees are required to enter client homes that may present physical obstructions to a non-ambulatory or non-sighted person. Training and Certifications
- Meet orientation qualifications
- Complete Nursing Assistant Registration and receive the NAR credential
- Complete Nurse Delegation Core Training and receive the CORE certification
- Become certified and maintain certification in Adult CPR and First Aid
- Receive training and certifications regarding Blood Borne Pathogens and HIV/AIDS training
- Complete the Residential Service Curriculum within 120 days of hire
- Meet Continuing Education requirements annually (12 credits per year)
