Summary: The Clinical Dental Director is a key leadership role within our dental clinic, responsible for overseeing the clinical operations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality dental care, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. This position requires a skilled clinician with strong leadership abilities, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing exceptional patient care.
Areas of Responsibility:
Clinical Oversight:
- Provide clinical leadership and guidance to dental staff, including dentists, hygienists, and assistants.
- Ensure adherence to clinical protocols, standards of care, and best practices in dentistry.
- Review and approve treatment plans, ensuring they align with patient needs and practice goals.
- Monitor clinical outcomes and implement quality improvement initiatives as needed
- Utilize operational and clinical audit results to lead the clinical team in initiatives of clinical systems improvements, health information technology innovations, and new methods of care delivery
- Assist the Chief Dental Officer with documentation, investigation and follow up of incident reports and complaints
- Assist with billing audits and various department reports
Staff Management:
- Recruit, train, and mentor clinical staff members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to enhance staff performance.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment that encourages teamwork and open communication.
- Evaluate and manage provider schedules and operational reports to meet organizational goals in quality health care, patient access, and productivity
- Provide clinical instruction as needed and support development of provider clinical skills
- Coach providers via goal setting to achieve organization goals
- Conduct regular meetings for purposes of quality improvement in patient care, provider and staff education, and establishment of policies and procedures
- Conduct performance, peer and competency evaluations via chart audit, direct observation, and analysis of patient and staff satisfaction surveys for purpose of quarterly and yearly review
- Maintain dentist personnel records
- Review and approve timecards, time off requests and reimbursements
- Supervise the Equipment maintenance and repairs program for the site
- Approve orders for equipment, supplies and materials
- Maintain all policies and procedures related to provision of care by dentists
- Works with the Grants department as necessary
Patient Care:
- Oversee the delivery of patient-centered care, emphasizing compassion, empathy, and respect for individual needs.
- Address patient concerns and complaints promptly and effectively, striving to achieve high levels of patient satisfaction.
- Monitor patient feedback and implement strategies to enhance the patient experience.
- Deliver high quality care in basic and advanced dental services in all phases of dentistry to patients of all ages
- Diagnose and treat patients to achieve excellent results within estimated treatment time with maximum attention to patient comfort
- Deliver treatment plans to patients along with an informed consent discussion surrounding treatment options
- Maintain accurate, timely and up-to-date patient records, logs and reports
- Ensure patient confidentiality consistent with State and Federal law
- Make appropriate referrals and communicate with specialists
- Discuss dental needs with patients or patient representatives
- Provide patient education materials
Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay abreast of current regulations, guidelines, and best practices in dental care.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations, including OSHA, HIPAA, and state dental board requirements.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to maintain regulatory compliance and mitigate risk.
Strategic Planning:
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop strategic goals and initiatives for the dental program.
- Identify opportunities for growth and improvement in clinical operations, efficiency, and patient care delivery.
- Participate in budget planning and resource allocation to support the achievement of organizational objectives.
- Assist the Chief Dental Officer in other areas of directorship: Health Information Technology, Specialty Access, Risk Management, Quality Improvement, School Based Programs, Continuing Dental Education, and Special Programs

Qualifications: The Clinical Dental Director plays a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality dental care, fostering a positive work environment, and driving the success and growth of the practice. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a skilled clinician with leadership abilities to make a meaningful impact on patient care and practice outcomes.
Education/Experience:
- D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree from an accredited dental school.
- Active California dental license in good standing.
- Proven experience as a practicing dentist, with a minimum of 4 years of clinical experience.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, preferably in a dental practice or healthcare setting.
- Excellent clinical skills and knowledge of current dental procedures and technologies.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in dental practice management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying abreast of industry trends and advancements.
Desired Skills:
- Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of dental care
- Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements
- Knowledge of quality, safety, and/or infection control standards
- Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of dental evaluation, prevention, diagnosis and treatment
- Interest in public health, quality improvement and leading clinical dentals
Language Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret common technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
- Ability to communicate with customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish, both written and verbal preferred.
Salary Scale: $180,000 to $190,000 base salary per annum + a $10,000 bonus.
