Assistant Controller
North Shore Child & Family Guidance is seeking a full-time talented, dedicated Assistant Controller to join our team.

North Shore Child & Family Guidance Center—also known as the Guidance Center—is the leading community-based not-for-profit specialty children’s mental health center on Long Island. Our staff is specially trained in working with children and teens (from birth to age 24) and their families.
We provide bilingual mental health and chemical dependency services, behavior management, parent education, medication management and psychological and psychiatric evaluations, as well as advocacy and care coordination services. We also provide a rapid and thorough response to emergencies through our triage and emergency and high-risk teams composed of our most experienced staff members. The position:
Duties and responsibilities are, but are not limited to:
1. Leadership and Collaboration
o Reports directly to Controller.
o Work closely with Human Resource Director.
o Participates in various agency committees as a fiscal department representative.
o Liaison with external auditors and oversee audit.

o Supervise staff members responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and claiming of grants.
3. Financial Oversight
o Supervise and review the processing of biweekly payroll and the related fringes reports.
o Supervise and review of monthly payroll spreadsheet tracking by program and employee.
o Manage cash flow on a daily basis.
o Supervise and review the accurate and timely entry of cash receipts into GL
o Review all invoices for payment including accuracy of invoice amount and of GL coding entered to accounting software.
o Review accounts payable reports and approve invoices to be paid in check runs.
o Maintain the agency’s expense allocation methodology.
o Oversee vendor accounts in accounting software.
o Prepare general accounting journal entries (e.g., month-end and year-end accruals)
o Review contract claims and vouchers before submission to funding source.
o Prepare all monthly bank reconciliations and investment account.
o Track fixed assets and record depreciation expense.
o Prepare quarterly agency-level financial statements, fundraising event reports, department/program-level financial reports, and ad-hoc reports using the general ledger and Excel
o Prepare audit workpapers.
o Prepare tax return spreadsheets and information.
4. Budget Planning and Financial Reporting:
o Assist the Controller in the annual agency budget process and other grant/contract budget preparation, including entry of budget details into accounting software.
o Assist the Controller in the year-end close, annual financial audit preparation process, and other audits or site visits by funding sources.
o Assist the Controller in preparing for quarterly reporting to Finance and Audit Committee. Inclusive of quarterly interim financial reporting, cash flow and accounts receivable aging reports and preparation of minutes.
o Assist the Controller in ensuring that fiscal and payroll processes are conducted in compliance with regulatory and other guidelines, as may be imposed by funding sources and other external parties to which the agency is accountable.
o Assist the Controller in ensuring that the fiscal internal control environment is satisfactorily maintained within the agency.
Minimum Education/Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related
· Five (5) years of related accounting experience
· Three (3 ) or more years of supervisory experience
· Demonstrated communication, organizational, and analytical skills
· Accounting experience at a not-for-profit organization
· Proficiency in using Microsoft products such as Excel and Word
· Experience with NFP general ledger accounting software such as MIP Fund Accounting, American Fundware or FundE and ADP.
