DME Coordinator Medical Assistant

The DME Coordinator processes requests for durable medical equipment (DME) for patients. As part of these duties, the DME coordinator interacts with patients about DME requests; consults medical clinicians for clinical decision-making regarding DME; assists in the creation of prescription letters for DME; interacts with DME suppliers about these requests; maintains up-to-date documentation of the requirements for EHC payers for DME; and serves as a resource for care teams for DME-related questions.
The Medical Assistant (MA) performs a wide variety of roles in support of the clinicians and in the provision of safe and whole person care to our patients. Please refer to the MA Job Description for full delineation of duties and responsibilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.) IN THE DME COORDINATOR ROLE, PROVIDES SERVICES TO
PATIENTS:

Receives requests from patients requesting DME supplies.

Receives requests from clinicians and nurses requesting DME supplies.

As able, prepares prescription letters for DME supplies, under standing orders.

Consults with clinicians as necessary for clinical decision-making on the appropriateness of the request and on diagnoses to support prescription.

Interacts with DME suppliers regarding requests as needed.

Faxes and documents in electronic health record DME requests and status updates.

Completes and follows-up on documentation.

Maintains up-to-date documentation on Shared X drive on payer eligibility and documentation requirements for payers accepted at EHC.

Serves as resource team member for care teams for DME requests.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Work in harmonious partnership with health center staff and volunteer to further Esperanza’s mission and vision, to accomplish common goals, and to coordinate various activities.

Adheres to policies and procedures of the health center and the regulations of governing agencies as they affect the department, recommending changes where appropriate.

Favorably represent Christ and His mission at Esperanza within and outside the Health Center.

Adhere to dress code policy at all times.

Demonstrate habit of good attendance and punctuality by reporting for work whenever scheduled.

Read and sign off on memos posted by supervisor for review in a timely fashion

Participate in departmental meetings and general staff meetings.
-
Notify both supervisors prior to scheduled start time if anticipating lateness or absence.
-
Notify both supervisors prior to leaving the clinic during business hours for any reason.
-
Read daily assignment sheet prior to starting shift and follow through on all assignments. Identify short staffing and make attempts to cover those needs.

Vacation requests are to be made using Esperanza’s Vacation Request Form and approved by both supervisors prior to the vacation.
