We are looking for a
Senior Underwriter to underwrite mortgage and consumer loan applications and evaluate loans for the bank’s portfolio and sale to the secondary market. You will analyze financials and collateral documentation to ensure strong and compliant underwriting decisions and maintain a working knowledge of the bank’s portfolio and secondary market guidelines and products. You will also assist with compliance regulations and HMDA quality control.
How you will accomplish this:
- Underwrite and approve residential and consumer loans within defined authority for the bank’s portfolio and secondary market. Ensure loans meet regulatory and underwriting guidelines by analyzing all documentation for a decision ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Analyze documents, request conditions, and make decisions without the use of automated underwriting results such as LP or DU
- Document lending decisions and communicate verbally and in writing to the appropriate parties
- Work closely with the Lending team to answer questions, clarify conditions, and resolve problems
- Maintain guidelines and products with up-to-date knowledge of secondary market policies and procedures
- Review loan information for quality control to meet HMDA reporting requirements
- Work with management to create efficiencies and develop new product ideas; train staff on changes
- Maintain customer confidence by keeping loan information confidential
- Manage several projects and assignments at the same time
- Perform clerical and administrative tasks to assist the team as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
What you will bring to the role:
- Bachelor’s or associate degree with 3+ years of related banking or customer service experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of mortgage industry, loan products, lending practices and regulatory guidelines
- Understanding of local real estate market, current market, and community environment
- Excellent customer service and computer skills
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Registration through the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS)
