In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of bidding and estimating, from evaluating project sites and plans to preparing accurate cost estimates. Your efficiency will shine as you handle multiple bids each week, and your expertise in analyzing blueprints, gathering quotes, and coordinating with clients and field teams will be crucial.

Responsibilities:
- Bidding and Estimating:
Participate and assist in all aspects of bidding and building construction projects.
Evaluate project sites and plans to provide estimates and bids for earthwork, roadway, site preparation, underground utilities, and drainage systems.
Prepare accurate quantity take-offs and materials pricing.
Prepare cost estimates and bid documents for construction projects or services.
Handle multiple bids per week, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
- Analysis and Coordination:
Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
Review project drawings and specifications to determine the scope of work.
Identify labor, equipment, and material requirements and determine production rates.
Solicit subcontractors and material suppliers for quotes, ensuring the selection of the most suitable offers.
Compare and analyze competitive subcontractor and supplier bids.
Review and understand bid documents and assess project risks.
- Project Management:
Prepare and oversee subcontractor and supplier contracts and purchase orders (POs).
Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, and field personnel.
Communicate professionally with all parties, both orally and in writing.
Attend and record project progress meetings.
Perform monthly cost monitoring and invoicing as needed.
Manage design or RFI, material submittals, and delivery as required.
Coordinate approval of extra work/change orders.
- Cost Monitoring and Reporting:
Assess the cost-effectiveness of products, projects, or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids.
Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation regularly for the project's duration.
Analyze estimated vs. actual costs upon project completion and seek input on corrective measures to improve cost accuracy.
- Client and Vendor Relations:
Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients and other customers.
Serve as a brand advocate and ambassador in every interaction with clients and the public.
Maintain composure, professionalism, and objectivity in difficult situations and effectively resolve conflict without escalating tension.
Consult with vendors, personnel in other departments, or construction supervisors to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
- Continuous Development:
Stay current on current construction materials, cost trends, and safety regulations.
Seek input and feedback from both external and internal customers.
Provide training and mentoring to junior estimators.
Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hours and related cost data or to effect cost reduction.
Requirements:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in utility estimation, specifically focusing on underground utilities, including water, sewer, and drainage.
Proven experience in reading and evaluating drawings, specifications, and relevant contract documents.
Extensive knowledge of construction methods, materials, techniques, costs, and engineering principles.
Proficiency in advanced computer skills with estimating software, such as HeavyBid,Demand Star, OpenGov; experience with on-screen take-off software like Bluebeam or PlanSwift.
Strong proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel.
Ability to accurately estimate the cost of construction projects and manage project costs effectively.
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to conduct thorough and accurate estimates.
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Strong people management skills with the ability to train and mentor direct reports.
Understanding of contract terms and ability to manage contracts effectively.
Knowledge of techniques and strategies for controlling project costs.
