The IEA is an association of Indiana investor-owned electric and natural gas utilities that provide Indiana consumers with affordable and reliable energy, benefiting families and businesses across the Hoosier state. Its mission is to advocate for policies that promote sound energy policy while supporting the economy and quality of life in Indiana.
What you’ll be doing:
The External Affairs Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the IEA’s communications needs, coordinating and managing IEA committees, assisting the team with event planning, editing and preparing communications materials, and monitoring state and legislative matters. It also provides some administrative support for the President and Vice President.
You will be responsible for:
- Helping us share information about Indiana’s energy landscape and communicating on issues through the preparation of talking points, fact sheets, and PowerPoints
- Coordinating with news media and developing statements
- Designing collateral materials and graphics that support messaging
- Conducting research and gathering data
- Assisting staff with events and providing on-site support and coordination
- Assisting with legislative committee monitoring and bill tracking
- Monitoring stakeholder updates and announcements
- Supporting IEA Committees, including managing minutes and quarterly reports
- Drafting materials such as meeting agendas, memos, presentations, and letters
- Preparing and assembling committee meeting materials
- Coordinating with the Executive Assistant on scheduling, travel, and event logistics
- Attending industry and stakeholder events
- Assisting with special projects, as needed
- Answering phones
Skillsets needed:
We need a motivated team player who is conscientious and attentive to details. This includes:
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including copywriting and proofreading
- Strong knowledge of the event planning, communications, marketing, digital media and public relations industries
- Ability to creatively problem solve and identify potential solutions
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, organize, and accurately prioritize work, and understand when urgency is required
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative while asking for direction or clarification and consulting others, as appropriate
- Willingness to be flexible with time and adjust to a changing work environment
- Ability to use sound judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat) or Canva
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Communications, Business, or related field
- 2-4 years of work experience
- Examples of writing and graphic design work (please submit when applying)
- Must be willing to travel < 10%
- Must be willing to work evenings < 5%
