DESCRIPTION
The Construction Quality Inspector oversees daily construction activities and examines products, materials and overall workmanship for defects or deviations from approved project specifications and contract drawings. The Quality Inspector is required to witness daily and document in specific detail all work activities and CMT activities assigned him by the Quality Manager. The Quality Inspector must read and interpret construction plans for structures, bridges and roadways and understand construction specifications, engineering tables and other reference material to verify and ensure work is in compliance with contract documents and project specifications. All work is required to be performed in a safe and professional manner.
The Quality Inspector works directly with the Contractor's Quality Manager and Quality Assurance Manager, analyzing the construction processes and paperwork for various methods of testing and inspection.
Essential Functions for Quality Inspector include but are not limited to:
- Develop, apply and maintain quality requirements and standards for the construction project.
- Serve as the primary quality control resource to site supervisor(s) for problem identification, resolution, deficiencies or NCRs.
- Design and implement methods for Quality Control and process improvements for testing and inspection.
- Promote and execute quality standards, inspection processes, test methods, quality plans, documents and reports.
- Develop, execute and analyze quality-reporting measures.
- Participate in internal and external quality audits.
- May compile, write and deliver training material on quality standards and activities
Typical Duties for Inspectors:
- Execute specific inspections on construction/installation activities on site.
- Inspections of sub-grade conditions, reinforcement, mix designs, soil compaction, sampling/curing operations, atmospheric conditions, product manufacturer, etc...
- Ensure daily testing of all materials and permanent work is per project specifications.
- Communicate with management, field staff and client regarding laboratory testing results and requirements.
- Review tests, inspections and samplings to ensure they are performed by appropriate methods and standards to comply with Project Quality Control policies and procedures.
- Inspect operations at hold points to ensure work is acceptable per project specifications and create/ fill out checklists and document inspection.
- Review field test results which may require making independent decisions to accept or reject the test to ensure quality standards are being met.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a professional manner with clients, sub-contractors, co-workers, and supervisors.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or as required by project.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Educational and Experience Preferences:
Roadway Paving, Traffic Control, Utilities, Structures and Drainage Experience preferred
College Degree. Regional or State Agency certification preferable.
Extensive experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
5 years of related construction experience in duties described above and/or equivalent combination of experience and technical training or apprenticeship program. Must understand ASTM, AASHTO and ACI standards. Must be able to read architectural drawings and TxDOT drawings.

Must be Organized, Detailed Oriented and self-motivated with the ability to record and communicate observation results accurately. Computer Skills a plus for Engineers.
Physically, workers must be able to; climb and maintain body balance; use hands and arms fully; stand, kneel, bend, crawl, or crouch for long periods; and see well (either naturally or with correction).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
