Responsibilities and Duties
Teaching
· Develop and implement age-appropriate activities providing the opportunity for a variety of learning experiences.
· Utilize age-appropriate interest centers enriched with specific activities, including teacher-made materials and hands-on activities. Rotate materials and equipment every 4-6 weeks.
· Use Developmentally Appropriate Practice in planning curriculum.
· Provide balanced schedule offering all children the opportunity to experience active, quiet, individual and group activities.
· Model appropriate behavior for children to facilitate the child’s positive self-esteem and positive regard for adults and other children.
· Use positive guidance techniques to assist the child in development of self-control. Monitor potential developmental or behavioral problems. (Serious problems should be discussed with the Director prior to a parent conference).
· Facilitate positive interactions, providing opportunities for two-way communication.
Administration
· Establish written goals for each child based on teacher and parent observations.
· Keep a developmental file on each child including work samples and anecdotal records.
· Conduct parent/teacher conferences.
· Attend all staff meetings.
· Discuss concerns about the program with the Team Leader and Director.
· Update and add information to the classroom notebook that is relevant to your specific age group.
· Greet each child and parent upon arrival to the classroom. Give brief, positive feedback to parents in the afternoon.
· Provide parents with a classroom handbook.
Relationships
· Reports to the Director of the center.
· Maintain a positive relationship with peers, parents, children, and church staff members.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
· Any physical impairments must not prohibit effective interaction with children, peers, and parents.
· Impairments should not jeopardize the health, welfare or safety of the employee, peer, children and parents.
· Lifting of children and moving furniture and equipment may be required.
Professional Development
· Attend professional workshops and conferences to stay up to date with the current child development information, technology, and regulations.
· Evaluation process 30, 60, or 90 days and annual thereafter.
· Complete continuing education units as required by ECC's policies and NC State Licensing regulation.
Job Qualification
· Associate or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education/Development or related field and one year’s experience in child care under qualified supervision.
OR
· Early Childhood Credential or Certificate and some experience in child care.
· No criminal conviction for child related offenses, including neglect or abuse.
· Some knowledge of North Carolina child care rules and regulations.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
