The Chief Engineer (CE) at Highland Technology, Inc. will provide leadership, management, and technical direction for a small business that designs and manufactures precision electronic instrumentation. Leadership tasks include working with company executives to set a technical vision for products while ensuring those products align with overall company strategy. Management responsibilities include supervising and mentoring engineering personnel to ensure that projects meet quality expectations and stay within schedule and budgetary constraints. Technical direction includes overseeing and approving designs while upholding engineering standards and processes. The CE needs to be able to effectively and clearly communicate with company leadership, engineering teams, and customers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead engineering team through every phase of product lifecycle including design, development, manufacturing, and support
- Create project schedules, budgets, and resource allocations
- Oversee technical staff, including recruitment, training, and employee development
- Develop new and existing customer relationships
- Maintain and enforce engineering standards and processes
- Review and approve engineering proposals, designs, and documentation
- Stay current with and implement the latest engineering trends, techniques, and methods
- Collaborate with executive team to develop and drive product roadmap, and communicate the goals of the company to the engineering staff
- Backfill technical responsibilities as needed
Requirements
- Advanced understanding of engineering principles/design and procedures
- Strong knowledge of circuit, software, and FPGA design, and electronic test equipment
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills
- Experience interfacing with manufacturing, customers, and company leadership
- Experience leading technical teams on concurrent engineering projects
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering required, an Electrical Engineering degree is preferred
- 15+ years of work experience
- 5+ years of engineering leadership experience
- Small business experience preferred
- US Citizenship
This offer is for full-time, non-remote, salaried employment. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The pay package includes health and dental benefits, vacation, performance-based bonus opportunities, and retirement plan. Educational and relocation reimbursements are also available.
