Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired specializes in providing services for people who are blind and visually impaired throughout California. Our Orientation and Mobility Specialists have schedule flexibility, low caseloads, and administration support who specialize in vision loss and understand the many demands of teaching. Working for Vista Center is unique because our teachers are never case managers and have the full support of a 360 vision team, including social workers, peer O&Ms, occupational therapists, ophthalmologists, and more!

Our Mission: Vista Center empowers individuals who are blind or visually impaired to embrace life to the fullest through evaluation, counseling, education and training.
Orientation and Mobility Specialists work with adults in the home and community environment teaching special skills regarding safe travel. Other responsibilities include developing independence plans, providing in-services, ordering materials, aiding clients to develop social and daily living skills, and collaborating with other professionals to design and implement interventions appropriate to each person's unique needs.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative instruction for adults with vision loss
- Provide education and support to student families
- Administer assessments and craft corresponding report
- Maintain data collection and records
- Communicate and collaborate with various team members
Requirements:
- Hold current teaching certification for O&M or be eligible to apply for an intern O&M credential
- Effective communication skills, written and verbal
- Able to work with a group of professionals and coordinate multiple schedules
- Able to transport between multiple work-sites on a daily basis
- Knowledge the special learning needs of people with vision loss
- Able to modify and adapt the home environment for safety
- Able to establish rapport and maintain effective relationships with clients and their families.
- Knowledgeable in O&M assistive technology
- Experience working with seniors is a benefit
