The schedule for this position is:
Monday: 8:00a - 4:00p
Tuesday: 9:00a - 5:00p
Wednesday: 11:30a - 730p
Thursday: 11:30a - 7:30p
Friday: 9:00a - 5:00p
The RN position at Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood (UHPP) provides the foundation on which we build efficient, sensitive, professional clinics. As an intricate contact with clients and the public, the RN must represent UHPP’s commitment to client satisfaction and quality healthcare.
Below is an overview of some of the essential functions of this role. This summary does not encompass all of the job duties/tasks/responsibilities of this position:
Patient Care:
- Greet patients and visitors in a positive friendly manner.
- Provide and present patient care factually and un-biased, including birth control options and abortion.
- Responsible for delivery of IV Medication for analgesia and sedation
- Enter patients’ data into EMR system
- Attend HIV/AIDS training sessions related to testing and counseling on HIV
- Provide HIV screening, testing and follow-up to all patients.
- Provides HIV risk assessment evaluation, pre-test counseling, testing, and post-test counseling to UHPP patients.
- Comply with all state laws governing abortion services and mandatory reporting.
- Work in conjunction with the clinician to anticipate, identify, and satisfy patient needs.
Telephone reception:
- Provide general information and patient education.
- Facilitate appointment scheduling.
- Performs client triage for: Medical problems, Acute vs. routine appointments, Follow-up of lab results.
Medical records:
- Prepare patient charts with the proper forms.
- Comply with requests for medical records.
- Maintains patient charts and records in accordance with clinic standards and guidelines, assuring confidentiality of all records.
Pharmaceutical:
- Dispense contraceptive supplies and medication with correct authorization and documentation.
- Assure that prescription labels are present and product inserts are given as indicated.
Lab / Intake:
- Conduct patient interviews to include vital signs, LMP, PMP, and patient needs assessment.
- Perform basic lab duties to include pregnancy testing, urinalyses, hematocrits, and preparing lab specimens for transport to respective laboratories.
- Provide education to patients per protocol as indicated in the areas of BCMs, STIs, HIV/AIDs, pregnancy results and options.
- Assists clinical staff during exams or procedures.
- Keep lab clean according to OSHA standards and guidelines.
- Assists in laboratory testing, including performing macroscopic exam of tissue post-surgery and the recording, reporting, referring, follow-up and transportation of specimens as needed.
Lab Tracking / Follow-up:
- Submit STI results to DOH as indicated
- Work with clinical staff in following up as indicated on all abnormal findings.
- Educate patients regarding abnormal findings and treatment options.
- Ensure accuracy of lab logs, including findings and follow-up per protocol
General Clinic Matters & Clinical Quality:
- Participates in quality assurance activities and continuous quality improvement activities as assigned
- Conducts necessary audits of patient records
- Participates in Risk & Quality Management conference calls and activities as designated
- Collaborates with Clinical Follow-Up RN on patient follow-up care
- Participates as an active member of the Care Coordination team
Requirements
- Licensed and currently registered to practice in New York State as a Registered Professional Nurse
- One to Two years Clinical Quality experience.
- Current CPR certification.
- Knowledgeable in the field of family planning.
- Able to relate comfortably, professionally and nonjudgmental to patients at all levels.
- Ability to relate to diverse communities
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Work independently and as a team member.
- Possess a warm, caring manner.
- Ability to physically assist a patient in distress.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Availability to work flexible hours, as required.
- Staff are required to be up-to-date with their flu vaccination. Exemptions will be made for medical reasons with documentation held in our HR office.
