Executive Chef
The Grillroom Chophouse and Wine Bar, in the heart of the Chicago Theatre district, is looking to hire an Executive Chef with a strong Steakhouse and American fare background. We are currently temporarily closed for renovations with a slated mid/late summer grand re-opening. We are excited to unveil our refreshed look and are actively looking for the right team members to lead us into the re-opening and beyond. We are looking for somebody who can start between now to mid-June. There is much to do before opening, including a menu revamp so bring your best ideas!
The Executive Chef will primarily be responsible for directing and overseeing the back of the house operation, and working closely with leadership and the events team to ensure quality of product and presentation. The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- 3-4 years in an Executive Chef level position within a similar kitchen environmen OR 4-5 years Sous Chef experience in high-end steakhouse or seafood environment
- Proven experience in costing and inventory practices
- Excellent record of kitchen and staff management
- Working knowledge of various computer software programs (MS Office, Toast POS, etc.)
- The ability to work in a fast-paced work environment that requires physical effort
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to delegate multiple tasks
- Current Illinois Manager ServSafe Certification & Chicago Manager Servsafe Certification
- Current Sexual Harassment Certification
Responsibilities frequently include but are not limited to:
- Developing unique and cuisine-appropriate menus
- Collaborating with the Owner to set item prices
- Staying current on developing trends in the restaurant industry
- Estimate food requirements and food/labor costs
- Maintaining the kitchen and surrounding areas to meet company standards and health code regulations
- Monitoring inventory and purchasing supplies and food from approved vendors
- Hiring, training and supervising kitchen staff
- Assisting and directing kitchen staff in meal preparation, creation, plating and delivery
- Identifying and introducing new culinary techniques
- Preparing meals and completing prep support as needed
- Arrange for equipment purchases and repairs
- Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and guests
Salary and Benefits:
- $90,000 per year starting salary (commensurate with experience) – paid biweekly
- Medical and Dental Insurance within 30 days from the start of employment
- 401(k) program participation after 90 days of employment
