The Board of Directors of the Alabama Ballet (the “Board”) seeks an Executive Director who will partner closely with the Ballet’s Artistic Director and work collaboratively with staff and the Board to fulfill the Ballet’s vision and mission to change lives through dance by promoting and fostering the development of classical and contemporary ballet through high quality performances, dance education, and community outreach.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting directly to the Board, the Executive Director will:
· Manage the fiscal affairs of the Ballet including the management of cash flow, budget, and financial systems.
· Build and maintain a dynamic partnership with the Artistic Director based on mutual respect and shared vision which will allow the art to flourish while managing the organization in a fiscally responsible manner.
· Serve as chief fundraiser including direct contact with doners and oversight of seeking grants.
· Develop strong external relationships within the community and the wider circle of donors and other arts organizations.
· Foster environment of diversity, equality, and inclusion at the Ballet.
· Lead and mentor staff, creating synergy and strong collaboration across the Ballet including execution of human resource responsibilities.
· Oversee marketing in effort to increase performance attendance.
· Represent the Ballet at performances and other community events.
ESSENTIAL DEVELOPMENT JOB FUNCTIONS
· Works with the Board and Artistic Director to develop a clear fundraising strategy and to set realistic, ambitious goals.
· Oversees and manages the Ballet’s development activities, including major & annual giving, corporate giving & sponsorships, foundations & grants systems, and fundraising events.
· Maintains direct responsibility for achieving fundraising targets and for tracking actual versus goal.
· Builds strong relationships with staff and external stakeholders to build and support the case for philanthropic support and to clarify giving opportunities.
· Manages the relationships with corporate, foundation, and government donors, including writing applications and reports on funding, coordinating donor perquisites, and representing the Ballet in person.
· Ensures donors receive proper and thoughtful stewardship with timely gift acknowledgements, cultivation opportunities, and donor benefits like studio tours, open rehearsals, pre-show receptions, ticket packages, and other similar activities and prerequisites.
· Oversees planning of annual Pointe Ball
· Manages in-kind donations, including solicitation and stewardship of gifts.

· Proven ability to work independently and collegially with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
· Appreciation for the performing arts and their value to individuals and the community.
· Knowledge of the local and state-wide funding community.
· High level of personal responsibility, initiative, and self-motivation.
· Ability to juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
· Availability to work night and weekend hours, particularly during production or special event weeks.
