POSITION TITLE
- Lead Teacher
- 1 Full Time Position and 1 Part Time Position
- Number of Positions: 2
WORK HOURS
- The Lead Teacher must be available between 9am and 6pm.
OVERVIEW
Our focus will be on outdoor education and environmental sustainability, with a goal of having students spend the a majority of their time in the outdoor classrooms, rain or shine, and following the principles outlined by the Reggio-Emilia philosophy, the pedagogy of constructivism and emergent curriculum. We pride ourselves on nurturing the competency of the children and teachers collaborate together in order to provide the best developmentally/academically appropriate experiences to the preschoolers.
MINIMUM QUALITFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will:
- Hold a BA in Early Childhood Education or related field.
- Hold (or be eligible to apply for) Site Supervisor Permit from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
- Have at least three years teaching experience in an Early Childhood classroom or setting.
- Have knowledge of the concepts of Reggio-Inspired curriculum, constructivist teaching and learning, environmental/nature-based education, and the California Preschool Learning Foundations.
- Have knowledge of emergent curriculum planning, implementation, and reflection strategies.
- Hold CPR/First Aide certification
- Have proof of immunization and T.B. clearance from physician upon hire.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, & SKILLS
- Supervise and instruct children ages 2-5 years
- Support the program’s Environmental/Nature Based Education and Reggio-Emilia inspired philosophy
- Plan, implement, and document emergent curriculum that is respectful of children’s current interests
- Plan, implement, and document developmentally appropriate curriculum as outlined in the California Preschool Learning Foundations
- Design an aesthetically pleasing age-appropriate indoor and outdoor classroom rich with natural and open-ended materials for open exploration and learning
- Maintain outdoor classroom garden spaces
- Communicate with parents about daily happenings and ongoing classroom projects
- Complete developmental screenings and assessments bi-annually
- Lead parent/teacher conferences bi-annually to discuss children’s learning and development
- Collaborate with families to develop individualized learning and development goals for children
- Curate a portfolio for each child during their time at Discovery Gardens
- Support school administration with the planning and hosting of school/community events
- Attend professional development opportunities
- Support with training, supervising, and evaluating part-time teachers and student interns
- Communicate regularly with school Director about ongoing classroom endeavors, projects, and interests
- Attend monthly staff meetings
- A background in art and knowledge of art mediums is a plus
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Starting Salary:
- $18.00-$22.00 hourly, commensurate with experience
Benefits:
- Vacation/Sick Time: One day of personal time off (PTO) will be accrued every other month, for a total of 6 days annually.
