We are seeking applicants to fill our Kennel Attendant (Animal Caregiver) position at our facility in Warren, MI. In this role, you will work with dogs of all ages, sizes, and breeds, as well as a few cats too. You will learn about kennel enrichment, positive reinforcement training, play groups, behavior assessments, veterinary care, and so much more. You will bond with our dogs and cats and have a positive and meaningful impact helping us find their forever homes. In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Providing daily care for our dogs and cats, including feeding, watering administering medication, walking, yard time, and nurture.
- Providing enrichment through dog play groups, puzzle feeding, scent games, walks
- Cleaning and sanitizing kennels and other animal housing areas
- Bathing and grooming
- Monitoring the health and behavior of animals and report any concerns to management
- Facilitating introductions with potential adopters and their pets
- Performing vaccinations, microchipping, and other basic medical procedures (we can train you!)
- Maintaining a clean and orderly work environment by sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping down surfaces, taking out garbage, putting away donations, etc.

Qualifications:
- Previous experience with dogs, other than your own, required. Prefer prior employment experience at places such as vet clinics, boarding facilities, training centers, daycare facilities, animal shelters, etc. Volunteer experience at animal welfare organizations counts as experience!
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment
- Requires an upbeat, energetic, and enthusiastic attitude
- Must have exceptional time-management skills
- Must be a team-player, but also be capable of working independently with minimal supervision
- Must not be fearful of dogs (or cats) of any breed, size, or age
- Must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs with no restrictions
- A high school diploma or GED required
- Reliable transportation is a must
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance
- Reliable work history that includes at least 6 months of employment at prior positions
- Ability to work on your feet for up to 8 hours
- Must be able to work weekdays, weekends, and some holidays. Preference will be given to applicants with flexible schedules.
I Heart Dogs is a non-profit, no-kill dog rescue located in Warren, MI (9 Mile/Groesbeck Hwy). We have staff at our shelter from 8:00 am to 8:30 pm every day. The daily shifts are from 8am-3:30pm, 12:30pm-8:30pm, and 2:30-8:30pm. You would be required to work at least one weekend shift per week and some holidays (holidays are paid at 1.5x pay rate). We are looking for applicants with a flexible schedule and are hoping to find an applicant who would prefer the afternoon shifts. This position can be full-time or part-time, your choice!
