BCA is expanding into Tennessee, with an office located in the Spring Hill/Columbia area planned for September 2024. We are excited about the growth of our firm, and we are looking for a dynamic team of professionals with a passion for service to help our clients succeed in the Tennessee market.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Field/Staff Environmental Scientist/Geologist/Engineer will lead a variety of environmental tasks as required by the project including federal, state, local, and commercial/industrial clients. This individual will be responsible for field sampling, site investigations, remediation oversight, and report writing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform field related activities including logging soils, air monitoring during investigation and remediation activities, installation of groundwater monitoring wells, and collection of soil and groundwater samples for laboratory analysis.
- Evaluate and compile existing soil, groundwater, surface water, and vapor/air analytical data, and develop corresponding sampling and analysis plans.
- Review and analyze laboratory results from soil, groundwater, surface water, and vapor/air samples, etc. collected in the field.
- Compile and present proposals and reports for environmental based findings.
- Manage schedules and subcontractors for field investigation activities and assist with site remediation planning and implementation.
- Perform and/or oversee on-site field investigations/monitoring to document compliance with various federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrate awareness of client needs and adjust accordingly, when necessary.
- Design, develop, and maintain Excel tracking systems, databases, and calculation sheets to be utilized for reports and regulatory programs.
- Generate routine reports used for regulatory and internal reporting.
- Travel and field work may be required on various projects in the US, with travel up to 30% of the time and field mobilizations averaging two days to two weeks.
Activities include, but are not limited to, procedure review and implementation, internal auditing, and training.
- Maintain awareness of project administration needs including recognizing the need for scope changes on a project, maintaining project files and project financial performance, then reporting appropriately, both internally and to clients on project status.
- Maintain and improve working knowledge and application of current regulatory requirements and guidance. Coordinate with other staff to develop strategies to ensure BCA is appropriately applying regulatory requirements at our client facilities.
- Complete assigned safety training.
- Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner, working in accordance with established safety and company requirements. Conduct periodic job site safety observations and participate in group safety meetings and job site tailgate safety meetings.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Team leadership and management skills with attention to quality, time management, efficiency, and mentoring.
- Familiarity logging soil using the Unified Soil Classification System.
- A general understanding of hydrogeology.
- A background with investigation/remediation of various media such as soil, groundwater, surface water, air/vapor, waste, etc.
- Experience working with the federal government and state (e.g., DoD, EPA, or USACE, state environmental regulatory agencies)
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including excellent technical writing ability.
- Creative problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of environmental sampling, boring logging, O&M of remediation systems, groundwater monitoring well placement and installation, and other environmental activities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects or issues simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.), Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD and other related software.
- Ability to perform field work, environmental site inspections, data collection/evaluation and conduct technical writing.
- Ability to manage projects and effectively communicate results.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Basic knowledge of chemistry and analytical methodologies.
- Ability to perform physical field work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Must be capable of passing a security background check to conduct environmental assessments at Department of Defense installations and properties.
- Must have or be able to obtain OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training.
- Must have or be able to obtain OSHA 8-Hour HAZWOPER Supervisor training.
- Knowledge of and experience with RCRA, CERCLA, DoD, DOE, or USEPA projects.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in geology, environmental science, engineering, or a related field is required, including but not limited to, chemistry or biology.
- 1-4 years of environmental investigation and/or remediation experience.
