The Sports Recreation Director at the Lakewood-Trumbull Y oversees the development and operations of various programs, including recreational and competitive gymnastics; dance; martial arts; pickleball; birthday parties; and
other recreational classes. This role involves strategic planning, program development, and implementation to ensure a diverse range of high-quality recreational activities that cater to the needs of the community. The Director will
oversee the recruitment, training, and evaluation of staff and volunteers, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all participants. Additionally, the Director will be tasked with budget management, marketing initiatives, and fostering partnerships with local organizations to enhance program offerings and community involvement.

Ensures high quality member-focused programs through innovative program development that is responsive to community needs.

Develops, implements, and manages operating plans and processes to promote program growth.

Measures progress against strategic goals and ensures continuous improvement.

Develops and controls program budgets so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives.

Hires, trains, and supervises staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Organizes people and activities for efficiencies and effectiveness.

Provides coaching support to program staff when needed, particularly the gymnastics programs.

Collaborates with the Marketing Department to develop and implement strategies using multiple marketing venues for all programs for which the position is responsible.

Assures compliance with state and local regulations. Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.

Serves as a liaison with all independent contractors providing services in the gymnastics area.

Participates in activities, workshops, conferences, etc. that will enhance personal and professional growth.

Serves as a member of the Lakewood-Trumbull Y Leadership Team participating in branch-wide meetings and activities including, but not limited to, acting as Manager on Duty when scheduled.

Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

3+ years of program management experience, preferably in a Y or other nonprofit agent

Ability to direct programs through supervision and coaching of volunteers and staff; development and monitoring of budgets; marketing and public relations; program development; and, fundraising

Effective communication skills necessary to inform, counsel, motivate, and support members and staff

Must be observant, safety-conscious, and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency

CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications required

YMCA Team Leader certification preferred or must be obtained within first 18 months of employment

Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations
