A. Greets and assists customers in locating merchandise; processes sales and returns; and answers questions or complaints.
B. Sets up, stocks, and straightens bookshelves and merchandise displays (supplies, candy, and clothing).
C. Answers telephone and directs calls to staff or takes messages.
D. Processes incoming deliveries which includes: verifying items with packing slip, checking for damages, pricing items, and stocking.
E. Assists with book buyback (process returns, shrink-wrap bundles, re-sticker books, and return books to shelves).
F. Processes online book orders and Central Supply orders for shipment, pick-up or delivery.
G. Packages books for return to publisher.
H. Maintains the general appearance of the bookstore and store room by keeping the areas cleaned and organized.
I. Assists with other duties such as alphabetizing and filing, shredding, recycling cardboard, removing trash, and transporting heavy carts to and from the Physical Plant department.
Other Responsibilities
A. Performs other duties as assigned.
B. Assists with the annual inventory.
C. Responds to the functions of the position in an environmental setting which might include cold, heat, odor, dampness, dirt, fumes, dust, oil, grease, noise, or vibration on a frequent basis. Appropriate protective devices are available as required.
A. High school diploma or equivalent required.
B. Able to operate cash register and handle various payment transactions preferred.
C. Able to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without an accommodation preferred.
D. Able to perform basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, required.
E. Able to interact with others in a professional manner.
F. Must be a current student at Kankakee Community College enrolled in six or more credit hours during fall or spring semesters. For summer employment, student must be enrolled in three or more credit hours in the summer term and/or six or more credit hours during fall semester.
G. Student is required to read and agree to the KCC Student Employment Agreement.
H. Federal Work-Study students should also read and agree to the program rules and regulations.
I. Work schedule and hours may vary and are determined by each department's need. Maximum of 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. Maximum of 29 hours when classes are not in session or during the summer.
J. Qualified candidate must be functionally literate in reading, writing, and computation skills as well as computer literate or willing to learn.
