2nd Shift Position offering 4 / 10 hour days - Monday thru Thursday, 2:30pm-1:00am. *$2.00/hour shift differential for 2nd shift hours
Under general supervision, the Fabricator will primarily set up and operate a variety of machines including the fiber laser machine; and may also set up and operate the roller, brake press, saw and drill. Using those machines, will be responsible for fabricating metal products out of sheet and structural steel material according to the work order, verbal instructions and drawings. Plans fabrication processes following specifications and using knowledge gained by experience.
Essential Functions of the Job:
1. Set up and operate metal fabrication equipment such as the laser burning machine, and plasma burning machine, roller, brake press, drill and saw to fabricate Wausau products.
2. Moves material manually by hoist or forklift and secures material in fixtures and/or tables.
3. Aligns and verifies positioning using measuring instruments to determine reference points and compute layout dimensions.
4. Completes first article inspections and verifies completed workpieces for defects, such as chipped edges or marred surfaces to control scrap waste and sort defective pieces according to types of flaws.
5. Verifies instruments set up to ensure accuracy.
6. Use hand tools to grind, sand, clean, or polish objects or parts to correct defects or to prepare surfaces for further finishing.
7. Creates layout and outlines sequence of operations, applying knowledge of stock allowances for thickness, trigonometry and physical properties of metal, necessary for the fabrication process.
8. Inspect and adjust crane mechanisms or lifting accessories to prevent malfunctions or damage.
9. Sets up and recalls programs, placing material, and positioning the cutting head for the operation of the laser and plasma cutting tables.
10. Operates vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts and passenger vehicles.
11. May be assigned additional responsibilities as necessary to support the manufacturing and fabrication operations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):
1. Knowledge and of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
2. Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and their applications.
3. Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
4. Read and interpret blueprints and fabrication instructions to determine work requirements.
5. Able to plan and organize work from bill of materials and production schedules.
6. Able to work to, within, precise tolerances with attention to detail.
7. Able to use hand and power tools.
8. Able to perform measurements using tape measure, protractor, square, calipers and other measuring devices.
9. Able to operate a manual crane hoist, forklift, and hand-truck.
10. Effective communication skills to provide information to supervisors, leads, co-workers in written form or verbally.
11. Able to wear personal protective equipment.
12. Ability to service, repair, adjust, and test machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of mechanical (not electronic) principles.
13. Able to work overtime and/or including weekends as production schedules dictate.
Education and Experience:
· Minimum of 3 years of previous metal fabrication experience in a manufacturing environment; including operation of a fiber laser, and brake press.
· Previous experience with laser programming (Bysoft preferable), and laser equipment maintenance.
· Experience operating Bystronic equipment is a plus.
