Position Summary:
We are looking for an experienced and responsible Lab Support Technician to undertake a variety of lab support tasks within Lumen's Lab Operations team. This position will be supporting a research biology lab actively engaged in developing therapeutics using Lumen’s spirulina platform. This position plays an integral role in supporting a functional research lab and is part of the foundation that keeps a lab running efficiently and smoothly.
This is a full-time, regular, hourly position; 40 hours per week. The work schedule is somewhat flexible, and training will be provided.
You must be organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with diverse teams within the company.
The Lab Support Technician’s responsibilities include working closely with our Lab Operations Team Lead to perform various cleaning, solution/media prep, equipment maintenance, protocol writing, and organizational tasks. To succeed in this role, you should have excellent time management and communication skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The major tasks for this position are as follows:

Clean and maintain stocks of laboratory glassware.

Maintain and prepare general laboratory solutions, reagents, and microbiological media.

Support Lab Ops in maintaining stocks of consumables items, conducting various inventories, and cataloging samples.

Regular maintenance, organization, and tidying of shared lab spaces and storage locations

Perform routine checks and/or preventative maintenance on lab equipment, safety compliance equipment, and miscellaneous facilities systems

Create and organize records of sample and media preparations in a LIMS system

Assist with lab-wide organizational efforts, such as chemical organization, equipment relocation.

Follow established protocols and optimize and/or develop new protocols as needed

Maintain, assist, and sample from large algal bioreactors

Respect laboratory safety policies and practices

Other operational duties and responsibilities as assigned
Desired and Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent, and 2-5 years of industry experience in one of more of the following fields: medical waste, sterile processing, cleanroom/manufacturing operations, medical devices, and/or pharmaceutical environments.

Solid organizational skills, including multitasking and time-management.

Strong teamwork skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Proficient in MS Office.

Physical Requirements
- Stand for extended periods of time (2 or more hours), including standing on or stepping up onto step stools.

Occasionally lift or carry up to 20 kg and reaching over head.

The pay rate for this role is $25 per hour.
