Position Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Position Summary:
The CFO manages and oversees the financial and physical resources of the school including finance, investments, risk management, accounting, human resources, and facilities. The CFO reports directly to the Head of School and manages a bookkeeper in the Business Office as well as the maintenance staff. The CFO is also an integral part of the senior level management team.
The CFO will:
- Develop and oversee financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets, protect confidential information, and ensure accurate financial reporting
- Be responsible for the long-term health and sustainability of the school’s financial and physical resources
- Oversee school business functions, including tuition billing and collection, accounts payable, contracting, payroll, human resources, accounting and reporting, budgeting, regulatory reporting and compliance, and other business administration activities
- In collaboration with the Head of School, will create and administer the annual budget and multi-year forecasting process to align with the school’s goal and mission and maintain account records related to the school’s budget
- Provide financial reports to the Head of School, Board of Trustees and board committees as needed/requested
- Participate in the development of school strategy, providing recommendations, financial analysis, projections, and other data to inform the process
- Collaborate with and assist the Head of School and Board of Trustees in meeting fiduciary responsibilities
- Staff representation on the Board of Trustee Committees such as Finance Committee and
Investment Committee
- Partner with the Director of Admissions and Marketing on the processing of financial aid applications and awards
- Ensure that the school’s human resource policies and practices are clearly articulated, consistently applied, and conforms to legal requirements
- Perform risk management to ensure that appropriate precautions and safety policies are in place and adequate and cost-effective insurance is in force
- Manage, mentor, and develop direct reports including Bookkeeper and maintenance staff
- Understand the culture and climate of the school and wider educational environment
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting
- Five years of experience in finance/accounting, independent school experience highly preferred. Non-profit experience helpful.
- Proven success in a senior level administrative role
- Demonstrated leadership qualities – organizing both people and process
- Excellent oral and written skills
- The ability to work collaboratively with co-workers and other school community members
- Keen analytical skills and a detail – oriented work style
- Knowledge of Blackbaud accounting software is a plus
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $110,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
