Brief Description
Performs as a high functioning, self-directed Disease Intervention Specialist to enhance private clinic surveillance activity in Dallas County by developing professional relationships with private medical doctors, laboratories, hospitals, correctional facilities, and other key health care providers to gather critical statistics and ensure timely reporting of sexually transmitted diseases, and to receive new and changing program updates.
Detailed Description
Serves as program liaison for private medical doctors, laboratories, hospitals, correctional facilities, and other key healthcare providers to ensure timely reporting of STDs and receipt of new and changing program updates. Develops written curriculums to inform providers of HIV/STD prevention and trends while ensuring clients’ confidentiality in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations, including HIPAA regulations. Conducts individual or group educational presentations for community based organizations, schools, and other agencies including, but not limited to, drug treatment centers, homeless shelters, and correctional facilities. Identifies, locates, and notifies infected patients and their partners of possible transmission of disease and ensures proper medical care is received. Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education, Experience and Training: Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Social Services, Health, or in a job related field. Three (3) years work related experience, two years as a DIS III preferred. Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Skilled in the use of standard software applications. Must be self directed and fully knowledgeable in order to assess a situation, make appropriate judgments based on facts, and utilize knowledge of program regulations and CDC guidelines to ensure successful disease intervention. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public. Physical/Environmental Requirements: Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license, with a good driving record and reliable transportation.
