Safety and Environmental Specialist
Pay Grade- $27.00/hr -$34.00/hr DOE
Location- Burlington, WA
Reports to- Plant Manager
Job Description
Summary/Objective
The Environmental and Safety Specialist will implement and maintain policies to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

· Organizational ownership of PWT Environmental and Safety Management Systems.
· Coach and mentor all leaders and developing leaders in aspects of safety and environmental compliance.
· Compliance training in key areas such as LOTO, fire prevention, fall protection, Illness and heat programs, machine guarding, mobile equipment safety, contractor management, and all other required topics.
· Able to train large groups in person
· Maintain recordkeeping.
· Conduct audits and risk assessment.
· Identify facility safety and environmental risks.
- propose/implement solutions.
· Develop and manage environmental and safety procedures for all areas of the Burlington Facility.
· Strong technical understanding of occupational health and safety regulations and practices, with strong knowledge in the areas of machine and electrical safety.
· Participates in the Employee Safety Committee and helps to direct the Committee's activities to ensure meaningful engagement from employees.
- Record and distribute monthly safety committee minutes.
· Prepare and schedule annual training covering emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other required compliance training.
· Lead Safety Observation Card (SOC) program.
· Develop, implement, and manage inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections.
· Participate in incident root cause investigations and corrective action.
· Understand and manage compliance for all environmental permits.
- Prepare environmental reports such as TurboWaste & SARA 312
- Data collection and entry into online portals.
· Industrial stormwater management.
- Collect stormwater samples for laboratory testing according to permit requirements.
· Ensure that material safety data sheets (SDS) are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
- Manage hazardous waste.
- Maintain records of discharge of hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.
- Manage Air Operation Permit.
- Inspect and file daily air quality records.
· Work well with all other departments.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment
Office setting and manufacturing plant (inside and outside in extreme weather conditions)
Physical Demands
· Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged period of time.
· Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.

Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field preferred.
· Three years of related experience. Or any combination of experience and education to be able to perform the job well.
