We are looking to hire a Director for our Faith Formation and Catechesis program. This is a full-time position. Roles & Responsibilities included, but are not limited to:
As a person of Faith
· Takes time for prayer, reflection and retreat
· Engages in on-going professional and spiritual development
· Witnesses to the value of participation in parish life by presence at parish events and celebrations
As a Catechist
Ongoing Program Development - Research the needs and preferences of the people of the parish to provide a faith formation program that meets those needs; provide a catechetical program for grades Kindergarten through 12th grade including a Sacramental program following the principles enunciated in the Directory for Catechesis and the Diocesan Guidelines; work with Pastor to choose materials for the programs with approved USCCB texts; Oversee Children’s Liturgy of the Word and Youth Ministry; Family outreach
Formation & Training of Personnel - Catechists will receive initial training through the Diocese of Syracuse; Strongly encourage catechists to receive Diocesan Catechist Certification as well as continuing education options
As Community Builder
Facilitator - Develop a sense of Christian community among the catechists through catechist formation sessions and periodic meetings with catechists; Facilitate personal faith growth among catechists, children, parents, youth and adults; Foster community between catechists and their learners; Promote growth in faith within the parish and helps parishioners to recognize their role in the catechetical mission of the parish
Resource Person - Serve as a resource person to the Pastor, Administrator and parish staff of the parish as a Christian community; Assist in the development of parish liturgical worship as requested; Work with other members of the pastoral staff to develop a sense of faith community out of which shared ministry may grow
Communication Link - Channel communication from the Pastor, parish staff and Pastoral Council to the catechetical staff; Keep the other members of the staff properly informed and coordinate participation of other pastoral staff members in the catechetical program; Serve as a liaison with other parishes, schools and Pastoral Care matters of catechetical programs; Inform the parish community, especially parents, of on-going catechetical events in the parish, diocese and nation; Communicate on a regular basis with the Syracuse Diocesan Office of Catechesis
Office team member - pitch in and provide help with Parish outreach and events within and outside of faith formation program
As Administrator
Cooperate with and develop relationships, systems and structures necessary to fulfill one’s role, responsibilities and policies; Serve as a unifying factor on the pastoral staff in developing a coordinated trust toward total and systematic catechesis; Call forth personnel from members of the parish who will assist as members of the catechetical staff with responsibility for various segments of the parish catechetical effort; Oversee the recruitment, screening, formation and evaluation of catechists and other auxiliary personnel; Oversee that all Catechists and volunteers are in compliance with the Diocesan Safe Environment Office; Develop specific parish sacramental policies, in association with faith formation, based on the Diocesan Sacramental Guidelines
Planning
Develop goals and objectives for the catechetical program within the framework of the Parish Mission statement and carries these through well-organized programs; Conduct appropriate evaluation procedures to determine whether the objective of the catechetical program is being achieved
Budget & Record Keeping - Maintain accurate records on each participating child, and monitor participation of each catechist in formation program; Direct the work of the support staff; Prepare and submit, in a timely manner, reports requested by parish office, diocesan and/or regional office; work with office administrator to prepare and adhere to annual budget
Housekeeping - Encourage catechists to maintain neat and orderly classrooms; Discourage classroom snacks due to the number of children with food allergies, etc.; Encourage catechists to drop off materials to be copied a day or two prior to class; Arrive in sufficient amount of time to open classrooms, turn on lights and heat; Secure building at the end of classes; At the end of the year direct catechists to remove teaching materials, projects, supplies and send textbooks home with students

Pay: From $20.00 per hour
