Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Student Accessibility Services, the Assistant Director will be responsible for the following:
- Employ knowledge of post-secondary education compliance requirements contained in the ADA and Section 504 and incorporate principles of social justice, equity, and disability advocacy.
- Consult with the Director, as needed, to complete the eligibility determination and plan for reasonable and appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities.
- Review disability-related documentation from medical providers and determine reasonable and appropriate accommodations.
- Coordinate SAS participation in new student orientations.
- Meet with prospective students and families and advise faculty and program administrators regarding general and customized course-related and living needs of students with disabilities.
- Manage student employees and part-time proctors.
- Participate in strategic initiatives for and within SAS.
- Contribute to efforts to maintain the consistency of language imparting the SAS vision.
- Guide content management for web, print, and digital materials.
- Oversee, with staff colleagues, official office communication on all social media.
Conditions of Employment
- Serve as a member of the Dean of Students on-call crisis team.
- This is a restricted position, subject to the continued availability of funding.

Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant area of study or comparable education and experience.
- Relevant professional experience, typically two or more years.
- Outstanding counseling, referral, and problem-solving skills and abilities.
- Excellent organizational and detailed record-keeping skills.
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Successful programming and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills and resourcefulness.
- Technical skills, including fluent use of Word, Excel, Outlook, and Google applications.
- Ability to work within a diverse setting with faculty, student affairs staff, students, and family members and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working with students with disabilities.
- Master’s degree in higher education, special education, psychology, counseling, social work, or a related field and at least two years of progressive experience working in a diverse student affairs setting.
- Working knowledge of disability laws such as ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Knowledge of assistive technology resources and the evaluation criteria used to determine reasonable accommodations.
- Experience and understanding of student development.
- Knowledge of current trends and issues related to the field of Accessibility Services.
- Experience with adaptive technology.
- Experience supervising student workers.
- Experience responding to students in crisis.
- Prior experience with database management systems such as Symplicity’s Advocate and Accommodate.
