Job Title: Extended Care Assistant
Reports To: Extended Care Program Director
Summary:
Under the supervision of the Extended Care Program Director and the direction of the Extended Care Site Coordinator, this position is responsible for assisting with an elementary school-aged day care program in accordance with the policies, procedures, and standards established by the District. The Extended Care program includes: before-school care, after-school care, intersession care and summer care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise and be actively involved with children.
- Lead and direct a variety of activities that are age appropriate for school-aged children including activities for Transitional Kindergarten students.
- Follow district student discipline guidelines to promote positive behavior. Learn and implement the Positive Behavior Intervention System and enact accommodations for students as assigned by the Extended Care Coordinator or Program Director.
- Communicate with parents and families, Extended Care Site Coordinator, Extended Care Program Director, site principal and other school staff as it relates to the day care program.
- Assist with the set-up, clean-up and organize of the Extended Care center and other school facilities as assigned.
- Care of equipment, reporting any repair needs.
- Prepare and serve daily snack following food service guidelines.
- Substitute for the Extended Care Coordinator as necessary and complete registration and attendance tasks as necessary when they are not available.
- Participate in and support Enrichment Programs.
- Implement health protocols to support students during public health emergencies including pandemics and fires.
- Attend staff meetings and related in-service trainings as needed.
- Coordinate with after school activities such as fundraisers and athletics.
- Learning and implementing emergency procedures including Earthquakes, Fires, Active Shooters.
- Assist students with homework as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Knowledge of appropriate activities for school-aged children.
- Knowledge of general needs and developmental stages for school-aged children.
- Ability to maintain a positive environment treating all children with dignity and respect.
- Ability to supervise and communicate in a professional manner with school-aged children.
- Ability to organize, supervise and instruct students.
- Ability to analyze situations appropriately and adopt an effective course of action.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to be flexible, adaptable and objective when faced with changing conditions and situations.
- Ability to operate computers and related software programs is desirable.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
Education and Experience:
- Any combination equivalent to completion of high school.
- Experience in working with elementary school aged children in an education, recreation or day care setting is desirable.
- Early Childhood Education units or related coursework is desirable.
Required Licenses/ Certificates:
- Obtain First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate within 90 days following employment and maintain current certification.
- Criminal Justice/Fingerprint clearance.
- Mandated Reporter – required annually.
- Verification of TB clearance.
Pay Range: Range 8
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.09 - $26.97 per hour
Expected hours: 18.5 – 21 per week
