POSITION: Deputy District Attorney - County Court
LOCATION: 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office – Sterling, Colorado; we will consider applicants who choose to reside outside the district.
SALARY: Starting salary is $72,000. Salary includes full medical, dental and visions benefits for employee, as well as a retirement plan.
SIGNING BONUS: $2,500 at beginning of employment; an additional $2,500 upon two-year anniversary of employment with the office.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
While this may not be the "wild west", here in the 13th Judicial District, we pride ourselves on fiercely pursuing justice. Out here on the high plains of Colorado, you have the opportunity to become actively involved in your cases - from charging, all the way through to trial - each case is your own. You will work closely with and alongside our law enforcement agencies in the prosecution of your cases. By knowing your officers, this allows you to become fully immersed in your cases, to include one-on-one consultation in your office with the officer to driving to the scene with them for an overview of the case. That is the beauty of working in this jurisdiction. You will have the ability to review reports, meet and work with our investigators, write and respond to motions and briefs, negotiate with all manner of attorneys, and best of all you will be in court for advisements, dockets, motion hearings, plea hearings, trials and much more.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Prosecutes traffic and misdemeanor cases from charging through
trial; reviews investigative reports; works closely with law
enforcement to investigate and prosecute; writes pleadings, briefs,
and related materials; negotiates plea agreements; appears in court;
conducts motions, pleas, and jury trials; work closely with victims
and witnesses.
· This position offers the opportunity for future promotion. Attorneys
who demonstrate proficiency in county court are considered for
promotion to district court after a year or two of experience.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Possess excellent oral and written skills to communicate effectively
· Ability to exercise discretion read, analyze and interpret complex documents and
statutes
· Knowledge of principles and practices of criminal law, procedure, and
evidence
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Law degree from an accredited law school or eligible to practice
under the Student Practice Act
· Licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado, eligible for
admission On Motion, or eligible for admission on UBE Score
Transfer. The District Attorney’s Office will assist with the cost of any
Attorney admission fees or dues.
· Must successfully pass a background check
