Biochemists, Experimental Systems (San Diego, CA)
Design experiments to study the chemical and physical principles of living things, including strains. Plan and execute experiments on quantitative small-scale screening and physiological characterization of cell factories. Research biological processes for renewable chemical production. May perform additional duties that are similar and consistent with stated position requirements.
Qualified candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biochemical Engineering, or closely related field plus 2 years of experience. Employer will accept paid or unpaid experience gained during university studies. Of the required experience, must have 1 year of experience in each of the following:
- Microbiology techniques for culturing bacteria to improve their tolerance to toxic products
- Experimental design for screening more than 100 bacteria per week to measure growth under different conditions
- Culturing bacteria to evaluate production of small molecule byproducts for renewable plastics using chemical instrumentation techniques
- Developing culturing methods using liquid handler and automation instruments
Evaluating the biochemical mechanism for production of chemicals by bacteria, in order to develop renewable plastics technology
