JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Assistant Director
Reports To: Director
Job Objective & Summary
The Assistant Director is responsible for all aspects of the daily classroom operation including supervision of classroom staff, classroom staff performance evaluations, classroom staff scheduling, purchasing of supplies and other administrative duties as requested by the Director. The Assistant Director is responsible for filling in for the Director when the Director is not present.
Essential Functions
Core duties or tasks which are fundamental and not marginal to the performance of the job. Responsibilities of this position will include but are not necessarily limited to the following:
Early Childhood Program (Essential Functions)
- Maintain a safe and healthy indoor and outdoor environment according to DSS regulations
- Ensure all DSS regulations are adhered to within the classroom setting
- Ensure children are well supervised according to DSS regulations
- Maintain high quality program standards
- Monitor ill children and illness policy compliance
- Work with lead teachers to design and implement meaningful curricular experiences in the content areas of language and literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, art, music, drama, movement and technology
- Ensure monthly snack menu is posted and ensure snacks meet with requirements of DSS
- Make recommendations pertaining to policy and procedure to the director
- Assist staff in identifying special needs of children and /or families, and refer to relevant community resources
- Ensure Pre K children are evaluated yearly
- Serve as a role model for the children in the areas of attitude, speech and actions
- Encourage children’s development in the areas of building self-confidence, problem solving and taking responsibility for their actions
- Treat all children in a courteous, friendly, and professional manner while maintaining respect for their language and socio-economic background
- Be consistent, but lovingly enforce classroom discipline and rewards
- Implement and maintain a program that meets the needs of young children at different ages and developmental needs
Communication & Parent Relations (Essential Functions)
- Greet parents, when you see them, at drop off and pick up
- Treat all parents in a courteous, friendly, and professional manner while maintaining respect for their language and socio-economic background
- Communicate with parents in a positive, compassionate and professional manner
- Report daily to the director on any issues that may require the director’s action.
Staff/Staff Relations
- Train teachers, assistants and support staff
- Ensure staff is keeping up with Tiny City Academy’s cleaning and sanitizing policy
- Responsible for the daily supervision of teachers, assistants and support staff
- Develop & implement staff training plans for teachers, lead teachers and assistants
- Observe teachers and assistants and advise on their classroom leadership, team collaboration, curriculum implementation, parent relationships and adherence to our philosophy, policies and procedures
- Establish systems for smooth program functioning and staff management
- Evaluate staff. Work with them to establish goals and education plans
- Responsible for help making the staff schedule, and replacing staff as needed for time off.
- Substitute in class if a substitute is not available
- Identify personnel problems and notify the director as necessary
- Treat coworkers with dignity and respect through appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and management
- Attend scheduled staff meetings and open house
Public Relations (Essential Functions)
- Plan and organize, together with the Pre-K teachers, the yearly PreK graduation
- Plan, organize and implement fundraisers
Purchasing(Essential Functions)
- Plan/suggest for equipment purchases for the classroom
- Responsible for inventory necessary for the classrooms
Education & Training(Essential Functions)
- Maintain CPR and First Aid certification
- Maintain MAT certification
- Work towards professional growth by attending classes or seminars a minimum of 16 hours per year
- Share current ideas and information with staff via email or at staff meetings
Administrative Functions (Essential Functions)
- Answer telephones and direct to the proper person
- Use appropriate chain of command
- Comply with our philosophy, policies and procedures
- Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to Tiny City Academy
Additional Functions
- Complete any additional duties and tasks as assigned.
- Maintaining cleanliness of the center and the common areas
Qualification Standards
(Necessary skills, degrees, certification required for core job function.)
Required
- Completion of a minimum of 16 Training hours
- Successful completion of the hiring packet, including but not limited to W-4 & I-9
- A minimum of 24 months recent experience working in a licensed childcare center
- Complete and pass criminal background check with FBI and Department of Justice, Live Scan Child Abuse Index Check and TB Clearance.
- CPR certification and pediatric first aid.
Job Type: Full-time
