Estimator/ Project Engineer
Global Electric is a commercial electrical company that focuses on large public works projects such as the Regional Connector Transit Corridor, Westside Purple Line Extension, Los Angeles Airport Metro Connector and more. We are a DBE, MBE, SBE company whose mission is to provide superior electrical construction services to our customers while contributing to the building of our surrounding communities. Specializing in design/build, commercial electrical, low voltage, CCTV, and fiber optics, our projects are located throughout Southern California. We have a full-time position available for a dynamic, outgoing individual eager to contribute to our company’s growth as the Estimator/Project Engineer.
Job Summary
Under the direction of the President, the Estimator/Project Engineer is responsible for performing tasks related to the collection of cost data required to monitor project budgets and estimates. The position requires the selection and application of resource monitoring and control principles, techniques, and technical knowledge of construction projects. To perform this job successfully, the individual must have excellent communication skills, demonstrate a high level of organization, and will be able to manage multiple high priority tasks simultaneously. Attending job walks, reading and understanding prints, performing take-offs from electrical plans, purchasing materials, and determining manpower, tools and equipment will be key to this position. The ideal candidate will manage the sales pipeline, help to assemble and submit quotes, communicate with clients and submit bids at bid time, followed by tracking the opportunity and following up until the results are known.
Essential Duties
- Act as Company representative to our existing customers.
- Provide management of existing projects including creating submittals, workplans, all reporting, responsibility for project P&Ls and supporting payroll certification documents.
- Meet with engineering and field crews to review production schedule and confirm all materials.
- Interface with General Foreman to guarantee safe, efficient & effective adherence to the job workplan and scope.
- Work to develop estimates through review of drawings, specifications, site visits, and subcontractor reviews and scope development meetings.
- Accomplish construction objectives by scheduling, communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, and adhering to policies and procedures.
- Meet construction operational standards by development of plans and schedules.
- Meet construction financial standards by providing budget information, monitoring expenditures, identifying variances, and implementing corrective actions.
- Prepare construction projects by verifying estimates, project drawings, and specification, establishing and disseminating schedules, awarding contracts, and specifying materials and supplies.
- Complete construction projects by directing construction requirements, comparing construction results to plans, and resolving problems.
- Provide construction progress reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing construction and budget data and trends.
- Avoid legal challenges by understanding and enforcing regulations with the ability to make recommendations for new procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required:
- 5 years of verifiable field experience (combination of field and office acceptable)
- Complete knowledge of current electrical codes, standards, and practices
- Ability to read and interpret plans and drawings
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
- Possess excellent time management skills and meet deadlines
- Complete knowledge of set up and operation of applicable equipment such as hydraulic benders, power threader and puller, cable vacuum systems, etc.
- Complete knowledge of jobsite safety requirements and OSHA standards and practices
- Proven computer proficiency accompanied by a strong aptitude for technical applications (proficient in MS Office, Google applications, project management software such as ESub and Procore, Adobe, and ability to learn and operate new software. Experience with Bluebeam a plus)
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
- Work well with PM’s and assist on current projects with all related materials and equipment orders
- Ability to read and write proper English; Strong oral and written skills
Education and Experience
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 7 years of construction field experience and/ or training.
Or 10 years of electrical construction related experience and/ or training
- Management experience of small to medium sized teams
- Excellent knowledge of tool and equipment safety
Licenses/Certificates
- Valid CA state driver's license and clean DMV record
- Qualified candidates will be required to provide at least three references and complete a background check.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
