Renaissance Charter School 2 is a new charter high school in Elmhurst, NY. We are professional, agile, innovative and our goal is to identify a passionate and experienced Mandarin teacher to join our team as a founding high school Teacher. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing school and help shape our curriculum and instructional approach from the ground up.

We're looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated and compassionate educator to join our founding team of high school teachers. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching 10th grade Mandarin classes and participates in building a meaningful school community. The ideal candidate for this position has a background in education, has exceptional communication skills, and a passion for helping others.
Education Background
- You have a Master’s Degree or pursuing a Master’s in K-12 Chinese Education/ Teaching Chinese as a World Language.
- New York State Adolescent Chinese Education teaching certification is required. TRCS 2 will consider candidates that are either (a) already fully certified at the time of application or (b) on track to become fully certified by the first day of employment.
- Understanding ACTFL and New York State World Language Checkpoints standards and proficiency guidelines
- Native-like proficiency in Mandarin is a must.
- FLES course completion is a plus.
- STARTALK language teaching experience is a plus
- Experience in working in an ICT classroom setting
Classroom Responsibilities
- Guide and support The Renaissance community in fulfilling its mission and charter goals
- Establish and maintain positive relationships and constructive interactions with students, families, colleagues, and administration
- Create and maintain an engaging and organized physical classroom environment, making learning accessible to all students
- Maximize instruction, a safe and disciplined learning environment in which classrooms values, teaching points, process charts, and student work are displayed
- Uphold all school policies within the classroom
- Model strong written and verbal skills
Curriculum and Instruction
- Understanding the proficiency-based language pedagogy
- Collaborate with grade team and coordinators to create rich, integrated units of study
- Full participation in grade-level team and curricular planning meetings
- Adhere to grade-level pacing calendars
- Use lesson plans to help drive instruction
- Submit necessary curriculum documents (e.g. curriculum maps, lesson plans) as requested
- Differentiate instruction in meaningful ways to support student learning
Assessment
- Maintain organized records of anecdotal notes and assessments
- Administer formal and informal assessments throughout the school year
- Use assessment data to modify unit plans, inform groupings, and support student referrals
- Use assessment data to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners
Parent and Family Engagement
- Establish and maintain ongoing positive relationships with families
- Appropriately give and receive feedback to/from students, parents, staff and administration
- Keep families well-informed of student performance and progress
- Provide feedback and guidance to classroom assistants
