The primary responsibility of a bartender is to maintain the bar area, serving restaurant and bar guests at the bar and fulfilling drink orders for the dining room.
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare the bar for service by slicing, pitting, and prepare fruit garnishes for drinks.
- Stock the bar with an adequate supply of liquor, beer, wine, mixers, ice, napkins, straws, glassware, and other accessories and ensure the bar is well-stocked throughout service.
- Organize the bar area to streamline drink preparation and inventory.
- Keep bar area clean, safe and organized while adhering to all sanitation, safety and alcohol beverage policies.
- Take beverage orders from customers or wait staff and serving drinks as requested, paying extreme attention to detail.
- Check identification to verify legal age requirements for all customers.
- Mix all drinks based on the standard serving sizes, keeping drink costs at a minimum.
- Mix drinks using an extensive range of ingredients including liquor, bitters, soda, water, sugar, and fruits, including standard and unique drinks.
- When placing food orders, transmit orders to the kitchen by inputting the guest’s selections into the POS system accurately, identifying special dietary needs and requests; ensure that the meals come out of the kitchen accurately and are brought to the bar by the food runner in a timely manner.
- Deliver a consistently high level of customer service to each guest and monitor all patrons for alcohol intake to appropriate levels and attempting to curtail inappropriate behavior.
- Provide a positive and friendly guest experience by interacting with patrons.
- Maintain an accurate cash drawer throughout the night.
- Obtain revenues by totaling guest charges, issuing the guests check, accepting payment and returning change or credit card to guests.
- Conclude the guest’s experience by acknowledging the guest’s choice of restaurant/hotel and inviting guest to return.
- Assist the Bar Manager in liquor inventory and placing orders for liquor, beer, wine, and other supplies.
Job Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- At least two (2) years of previous bartending experience is required; upscale dining experience is preferred
- TIPS certified is required
- Must have basic math skills in order to carry out cash-handling procedures
- Must have a working knowledge of alcoholic beverage policies and State regulations
- Must have excellent interpersonal, customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work with a team in a fast-paced environment
- Must have excellent verbal communication skills in order to communicate with both front of house and back of house employees
- Must follow all procedure manuals and safety regulations
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time and walk, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch, twist and reach
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs as needed
- Must be able to have continuous use of hands and arms
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to heat, fumes and airborne particles
