The Agricultural Safety and Health Program in the Department of Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering at Ohio State University seeks a Safety and Emergency Education Specialist. Candidates should be a highly creative and motivated person to carry out training and injury prevention programs specifically in the area of agricultural safety and health and emergency management.
The position will plan and manage the design, implementation, and evaluation of injury prevention programs, including seminars,conference sessions, train-the-trainer workshops, online certificate programs, as well as and create educational resources, fact sheets, and displays for a variety of agricultural audiences.
The position will also coordinate educational activities for first responders involved in agricultural rescue and the Grain C.A.R.T simulator, including the development of educational resources and delivery of trainings and workshops for emergency medical technicians and first responders.
In collaboration with other state agencies and agricultural organizations, the position will also work in the area of emergency management education, in relation to agricultural operations.
Additional duties will be to conduct surveillance of agricultural injuries and fatalities to maintain the Farm Family Injury Database of Ohio.
The education position will also manage social media; assemble yearly summary reports, write technical reports and general press articles.
Required:
This position requires program planning experience and the candidate must have demonstrated verbal/written communication skills including electronic media. There will be in-state travel, including night and weekend programs; the candidate must provide own transportation reimbursable at state government rate. It is essential for the candidate to have production agricultural experience and understanding of agricultural equipment and systems.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Advanced degree in relevant field may be desirable. 4 years of relevant experience required. 4-8 years of relevant experience preferred.
Desired:
Preference given to candidates with OSHA outreach training qualifications, fire/ rescue experience, emergency management training, safety program management and risk control abatement strategies transferable to agricultural environments.
The salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
